My Positive Experiences from Covid-19 Pandemic
Since Covid-19 started, I’ve been trying to keep a positive attitude as much as I can so my family doesn’t feel the fear that this worldwide pandemic has instilled among us.
First, I’ve gone through the hard experience of having close relatives who got infected. It was a very stressful time, especially since I was so far away from them and was only able to help with funds. During that time I was constantly making calls looking for help and I was extremely afraid that someone I loved would lose their life in just 2 weeks. My family members had to face the terrible struggle of how to survive in a situation where there was no possibility to pay for a private hospital.
Thankfully, my family members were able to survive the Covid-19 nightmare. The experience taught me so much and even with the long distance between me and my family, they were able to get help and support from many people who don’t even personally know me but with their words and advice gave me a lot. Thank you!
Another good thing from Covid-19 is that I started to sing. Yes, that’s right. I started to do Karaoke every weekend for close friends and family. Somehow, I wanted to share my positiveness and perhaps create a distraction by using this new hobby. I am not a singer and never trained for it, but I love art and singing has been one of my passions since I was a kid. However, I was always very shy and embarrassed since my voice is not the greatest. But, as time passed I lost that fear and started to sing publicly on Facebook videos. This new hobby has created a future project to train professionally and become a folklore Peruvian singer.
Acting is another skill that I always wanted to pursue and hence I thought why not start making videos even though I have an accent. This is something that I always wanted to do but stopped myself because of my strong spanish accent. Still, I decided that I will do it no matter what happens. So there you go, somehow I created a new service for my marketing business by generating commercial videos with a good friend of mine who is taking care of all the editing.
Then, another project was born for 2021 on creating more commercial videos and a new Youtube channel where I can share some of my experiences, projects and somehow be able to share what I have learned with all of you.
Lastly, a new endeavour which I am proud of is being able to reach families who are in real need due to the Covid-19 pandemic. One day I was watching the news and saw a group of mothers in a very small community in Santa Rosa – Lima, Peru who were cooking with wood fire to feed 160 families who lost their jobs due to the pandemic and couldn’t afford their own groceries. I decided that I needed to do something as one day in my life I suffered poverty too and know what it is to have no money even for food. I spoke with my husband and my son to help these families so we decided to purchase a commercial stove and pots so they at least cook without risks or danger.
Luckily, the Peruvian government and other local charity institutions support the delivery of raw materials for their cooking needs. This community “Asoc. De Viv. Ampliacion Hijos de La Arboleada” asked us to help for a Christmas event for 104 children from 1 to 11 years old. I couldn’t say no even though I didn’t have the finance to do it. We pulled it together and were able to provide a gift for each of those kids and have a moment to enjoy this holiday season. So, this event created another 2021 project where my son Daniel Burstin (with my support) will be creating an NGO to help families who can not afford their own groceries. This organization will help them cook as a group starting with the logistics to create a community kitchen. Also, it will aim to create different sub-projects for learning so those kids don’t continue to live in the immense fear that this pandemic has brought upon us.
I hope that Covid-19 has brought some positiviness your way and that you are able to use those experiences for a better 2021.
Happy Holidays!
